In our digitalized era, apps develop faster than humans, and so, today we come face to face with a newly born app that has in the first hours of its birth caused worldwide controversy. “Thread” .

The founder of Facebook, Meta, and owner of Instagram Mark Zuckerberg has recently launched a new platform called “ threads”. This twitter clone app created a wave of different opinions on twitter with the hashtag “threads”, now sitting at the top of the ladder of trendings. While some believe that it is a fresh breath of air and that it provides a smoother usage, others think that it is unsafe and using as proof screenshots of the list of data the app collects for better use.

Why was it created ?
Adam Mosseri, the head of product at Instagram, stated in an interview with The Verge that the business believed the recent “unpredictability” at Twitter had generated a demand for a new platform.

“Obviously, Twitter pioneered the space,” Mosseri said. “But just given everything that was going on, we thought there was an opportunity to build something that was open and something that was good for the community that was already using Instagram.”

How is “Thread “ different from “ Twitter “
Similarly to its adverser twitter, “threads” allow its users to share short texts posts that can be shared and liked among all participants. But the differences outweighs that similarity, starting by the world limits, “Threads” offer 500 words limit while “Twitter” offers 280 words. The posts can also include 10 photos when Twitter posts can only include 4. Moreover, according to a meta blog post the videos posted can be up to 5 minutes long .

How can it be used?
Using Threads is fairly simple. Users only need to have an already existing instagram account which allows them to follow the same accounts they do on instagram.

Why was the app created?
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, stated in a post that the service is designed for “public conversations” and that the company is attempting to bring some of what it built for photos and videos on Instagram to Threads with text.

He continued by saying that Meta hoped users would converse on the platform in a “friendly and open” manner.

Does the app hold any dangers?

Meta has previously been critisiced about how it handles its users data. This has caused for its entry into the European Union to not yet be approved.
